In Queensland, a Roadworthy Certificate is needed when a registered light vehicle is offered for sale, or when re-registering an unregistered vehicle.
This confirms that a vehicle has passed a minimum safety standard inspection. The inspection covers the basics for the safe operation of the vehicle such as; tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, body rust or damage, windscreen and lights.

Unregistered Vehicle for a Roadworthy Inspection
Did you know that Qld Department of Transport will allow you to drive your unregistered vehicle to an Approved Inspection Station to get a Roadworthy Certificate? You must however:
- Take the shortest and most direct route to Highway Auto Care at 246 Musgrave St., Berserker Nth. Rockhampton Qld 4701.
- Remove the number plates and registration label from the vehicle. Standard number plates are to be surrendered to the Department of Transport. Personalised plates can be kept.
- You must bring with you a completed Vehicle Registration Application Form (Click here to get the form) Download form.
- Also bring the original compulsory third party (CTP) insurance certificate (6- or 12-month registration period) from a licensed insurer.
